A petition was filed with a Dhaka court on Tuesday seeking a case against seven people, including former Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation DSCC) Sayeed Khokon, on charges of taking money in the name of legalising shops of Fulbari Super Market-2.
Delwar Hossain Dulu, president of the Traders’ Association of the market, filed the petition with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam. It was learned that there were 911 additional shops constructed in three blocks beyond the design of the market owned by the DSCC.
The city corporation launched a drive on December 8 last to demolish those shops.
Affected shop owners claimed that Khokon took Taka several crore in the name of legalising the shops during his tenure one year ago. The DSCC took rent from the shops until recently.
