Sylhet Correspondent :
About 3300 hectares of Trans-planted Aman (T-Aman) land in four districts of Sylhet division are reportedly affected by Majra poka.
“The farmers have started harvesting of the early varieties of the crop only in a few pocket areas’, Deputy Director of Sylhet divisional office of DAE Dr. Mamun Ur Rashid said today.
However, it would take at least two to three weeks to start the full harvest, he said.
Meanwhile, there had been some reports of pest attack like ‘Majra poka’ and ‘patay morano poka’ on some of the paddy fields in the four districts, sources informed.
Shahin Chowdhury of village Mohanpur under Sunamganj Sadar Upazila said, ‘I may not get even 25 maunds of paddy this year whereas normal yield was to be 100 maunds. Pests have already damaged huge croplands in our area,’ he added.
Abdul Hasib of village Baushi under Golapganj Upazila said floods had caused much for us. Besides, the pest attack has also put us in great worry, he added.
Admitting the pest attack the official, however, claimed it is only on below one per cent of the total crop lands. But the situation was under control, he added.
