People’s unity to prevent militancy urged

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday said, educational institutions throughout the country have more risk of militancy and the militants are targeting the impressionable students. So, the unity of all people only can prevent students from militancy.
He passed the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion programme titled `Activity for Preventing Terrorism and Militancy’ in the TSC auditorium organized by the Dhaka University (DU).
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the function, while UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan, Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain, DU Pro-VC Professor Aktaruzzaman, Treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin and DU Teacher Association (DUTA) President Professor Fariduddin Ahmed spoke at the function. DUTA General Secretary Professor SM Maksud Kamal conducted the function.
Minister said, militancy will never find its footprint permanently in the country.
Militants mislead the students and the teachers misinterpreting the verses of the Quran. He urged all to stand on a signal platform for preventing militancy.
`The new generation will be the makers of Digital Bangladesh. So they have to learn world-class education and build themselves as honest and upright person’, he added.
Nahid said DU guided the nation at every crisis moment of the country, including Language Movement and Liberation War. So, we expect that DU will contribute more to eliminate militancy from the country.  
DU VC said, the students and the teachers of DU would never compromise with terrorism and extremism.
`Militancy is now a challenge for Bangladesh. We have to be conscious about it and we should help the present Pro-Liberation Government eliminate militancy from the country’, said DU Pro-VC.
