Speakers at a meeting here Tuesday said the land related services must be peoples-friendly and accountable for the sake of welfare of the public in general.
They mentioned that many of the people still now suffer a lot due to various land related complexities and said time has come to reduce the sufferings through the best of uses of ICT. Introduction of the digital land survey in the country would also remove the people’s sufferings related to the land disputes caused by the conventional land records.
They said this while inaugurating a three-day “Specialized Land Service Week” at Borakuthi Land Office in the city today. Main objective of the week is to create public awareness on various land related issues like laws and rules, development tax, ownership, tax, registration and management.
The week intends to promotion of effective, transparent and accountable land governance practices towards access to equitable land and property rights for the poorest community.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed addressed the meeting as the chief guest. Additional Commissioner Haiyul Quiym, Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Zonal Settlement Officer Muminur Rahman, Divisional Deputy Land Reformation Commissioner Shayam Kishore Roy and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Land) Dr Dewan Muhammad Shahriar Firoj also spoke.
They said the government is working relentlessly in order to strengthen access to land and property rights for all citizens especially the poorest.
Helaluddin Ahmed said there is a lot of hope riding on the effective use of ICT in the Land Management System to usher in modernization, user-friendliness, transparency and accountability in this important sector.
He said the goal of “Digital Bangladesh” can be achieved through digitisation of land records as modernized land management practice is documented for wider replication in developing efficient land market and sustainable land use.
Emphasis should be given to creating awareness among people of the targeted communities for their having access to the modernized land records management system through improved civic participation.
“We have to develop a process of identifying landless people for fair distribution of khash land among them properly,” said Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed adding that the week must be observed properly and accurately so that the targeted people can derive total benefits of it.
