Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday claimed that people enjoyed safe and comfortable journey during this Eid.
“A team work by several ministries, oganisations, police and administration made it possible. People celebrated their Eid delightfully with their near and dear ones for the contribution of the team,” he said.
The Communications Minister made the remarks while talking to reporters after a thanksgiving function with the officials of Roads and Highways Department, police, highway police, traffic police, representatives from bus owners and workers federation and civil society at city’s Ramna Chinese Restaurant.
“Though people had comfortable journeys this time, I’m not happy yet. Dhaka-Joydebpur-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Chittagong highways will be made fit for the smooth movement of vehicles ahead of the next Eid (Eid-ul-Azha).”
Taking media criticisms positively, the minister said, “I thank the media for criticising me as it made it easy for us to take action instantly.”
Railways Minister Mujibul Haque, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, senior secretary of Local Government division Manjur Hossain, Railways secretary Abul Kalam Azad, secretary of Bridge Division Khandakar Anwarul Islam, shipping secretary Syed Nazrul Islam, IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandakar, Dhaka Metropolitan commissioner Benazir Ahmed, columnist Abdul Maksud, Prof Shamsul Haque, chairman of Safe Road Movement Ilias Kanchan were, among others, present on the occasion.
People are very happy for being able to reach their destinations by using Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Comilla, Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail roads in shorter time than before, he further claimed.
Meanwhile, the minister urged all to work together and announce a fight against vexing traffic jams in Dhaka city.
