People welcome Bengali month of Ashar

The first day of the Bengali month of ‘Ashar’ begins in with the blossoming of ‘Kadambo’ flowers swinging with the gentle breeze of the month. The peacocks are dancing with the flair of its tales, waiting for the wistful eyes for its meeting company.
The women adorned with colorful dresses and Kadambo flowers on their chignons were strolling across the capital city, especially on the DU premises.
After a long spell of hot weather, the rainy season starts with the month of Ashar with showers to cool the earth on Wednesday.
 In fact rain begins in Bangladesh in the middle of June and continues till the middle of September. During the month of Ashar, the sky is overcast with deep black clouds that cover across the sky close to the earth suffers surface.
Violent blasts of wind blow, lighting, flasher and thunder roar. The sun can hardly be seen. The rivers are full to the brim of water.
The southwest monsoon over Bangladesh from the Bay of Bengal brings many vapours with it. As a result, there occurs heavy rainfall during the monsoon in Bangladesh.
Interestingly, the season has been depicted in poems and lyrics sometimes as a symbol of sufferings created by the separation from the beloved and at other times as a season of freshness and romanticism.
Different cultural organisations celebrated Barsha Utsab, the first day of Bangla month Ashar, on Wednesday on the Dhaka University campus, by way of singing, dancing, discussion and poetry recitation.
Preserving nature and welcoming the rainy Monsoon, Barsha Utsab Udjapon Parishad organised ‘Barsha Utsab 1429’ celebrations at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Wednesday morning.
The programme was inaugurated by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman as a chief guest. “The occasion of Barsha Utshab is being celebrated through different cultural functions. The festivals like Barsha Utshab awaken non-communal human values within people and harmony is being created by it,” DU Vice-chancellor said.
DU Vice-chancellor call on the people to plant enough trees to save the environment mentioning this season is a good time to plant trees.
However, Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, another cultural organisation, held its programme at Nazrul Mancha in Bangla Academy in this regards.
Apart from the programmes, the Dhaka University Cultural Society staged a colourful event named “Ashar Parbon 1429” at TSC auditorium on this afternoon.
Eminent drama and media personality M. Hamid inaugurated the function while Dr. Muhammad Samad, Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) presented as a chief guest.
Dr. Shikdar Monowar Murshed, Professor of Linguistics Department, presented as special guest and Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus, as keynote speaker chaired by Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, Associate Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Department and Moderator of DUCS.
Besides, there was a day long fair of handicrafts represented by young entrepreneurs. Renowned band ‘Krishnapaksha’ also performed several songs too.
