Forest and Environment Minister Anwar Hossain Manju on Tuesday urged the people to make commitment of not polluting the country’s environment.
“Start from your house and ensure that you are not polluting the environment,” he added.
The minister was addressing a workshop titled “Climate Financing: Perspective Bangladesh” as chief guest at DRU auditorium jointly organized by Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) and BCJF.
He said climate change is not only the issue of Bangladesh, but also a global phenomenon. “But, we know our strength and we should try to tackle the adverse impacts of climate change by own,” added the minister.
Anwar Hossain informed that the Prime Minister office has prioritized the issue of climate change and closely monitoring it.
M Didarul Alam, Additional Secretary and Managing Director of BCCT presented keynote paper while DRU president Shaheed Chowdhury chaired it.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, PKSF Chairman, said the world has to solve the problem of greenhouse gas emission as it’s a global issue.
He said Bangladesh has to adapt to the adverse impacts of the climate change, but question is there how long we will adapt as it requires huge amount of money.
Ahmad emphasized on political leadership as the experts could not be able to take any decision rather they can put forward solution.
Bangladesh climate negotiation team member and FEJB Chairman Quamrul Islam Chowdhury said if Bangladesh want to access more global climate fund, the country has to show up raise fiduciary standard and its project implementation capabilities as well as formulation of climate-smart mega programmes to ensure sustainable development.
He also suggested to include climate change in the curriculum as well as opening this unfolding discipline at different public and private in universities widening the knowledge management skills.
