At least 3 crores of people in the country are suffering from any forms of urinary complications. Of them 40 percent of above 5o people are affected by prostate related diseases, experts made the remarks at an awareness raising discussion meeting on Monday.
They also found that women mainly suffer from recurrent urinary infection which can exist among female from birth to death of their lives. Bangladesh Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) organised the awareness raising discussion and daylong free urological health camp on the occasion of the 99th Birthday of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day-2019 at Evince garments premises, Mirpur section-7 in city.
An expert team of specialist Urologists, Nurses and technicians provided urological healthcare services among more than 400 workers of the Evince Garments, conducted necessary laboratory tests distributed required medicines for them totally free of charges.
As part of the day-long camp, BAUS organised the awareness raising session on prevention of urological diseases with Prof. Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Abedin, President of the BAUS in the chair.
Addressing the meeting, BAUS President, Prof. Abedin said among the diseases of urinary track, the stone in urinary track exist most which is at least 10 to 12 percent while the ratio of Prostate and Kidney Cancer is from 3 to 5 percent.
He mentioned that currently there have only 270 Urologists in the country which is also including the just passed out Doctors which is quite a few against the huge number of Urology patients.
“At least 40 percent of total the patients, visiting the Surgery Department at outdoors of Hospitals in the country are with urological complications, the age group of them ranges from childhood to age-old male or female patients”, Dr. Abedin added.
Senior Consultant and Professor department of Urology, Kidney Foundation Hospital, Prof. Dr. AJM Zamanul Islam Bhuiyan presented keynote paper in the discussion meeting.
Demanding to establishing full-fledged Urology Units with required manpower, equipmental support at every medical colleges of the country on the perspective of the ever growing pressure of urological patients and it’s high treatment cost, Prof. Rafiqul Abedin said only then the people can be provided with required urological services.
In his keynote paper, Prof. Jamanul Islam Bhuiyan said all the modern treatment facility is now available in the country and it is possible to cure the patients even to avoid severe criticality if their diseases are detected at early stage and start treatment.
He said at least 20 percent patients can be saved from chronic kidney disease and they can lead a sound life only through maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
He suggested to get early treatment, building health food habit, drinking water sufficient, consuming sufficient vegetables, less quantity of salt and meat, shun smoking to prevent urological complications.
