People suffer due to lack of bridge over River Jomuneshwari

The people of different villages under Taraganj upazila in Rangpur district have long been suffering due to lack of a permanent bridge over the river Jomuneshwari at Chakla Ghat area of Kursha union in the upazila.
Around 20,000 people of the villages are being compelled to cross a bamboo-made bridge during dry season while they have to depend on boat or banana tree trunk (Vela) amid serious risk during rainy season.
Business and public health services are seriously being hampered in the areas as the people living on both sides of the river cannot travel easily between the upazila headquarters in absence of a bridge over the river.
The school going children face great difficulties in reaching their institutions by boat or Vela. Many of them do not go to school in rainy season for fear of accidents. But no step has been taken so far to build a concrete bridge over the river, locals alleged.
Farmers of the areas are the worst sufferers as they are facing setback to carry their products to different areas.
Ainul, a rice trader of Hajipara village said they can hardly make any profit as they have to spend extra money as carrying cost. At the time of election campaigns the local political leaders make repeated pledges to build a bridge over the river but they become oblivious about it once elected public representative, he also said.
Chairman of Kursha Union Parishad Afzal Haq said , they are trying their level best to erect a permanent bridge over the river in area to ease public sufferings.
