Working people are still returning to Dhaka after the Eid holidays defying strict restrictions announced by the government to prevent corona infection.
On Friday morning, many holidaymakers were seen walking through the bridge area of Gabtali and Aminbazar. At that time they were entering on foot, by rickshaws and vans, dodging the strict surveillance of the law enforcement agencies.
Those people who came to Dhaka for jobs, vaccinations or corona tests have to pay 3 to 4 times more fare. Even they have to change many small vehicles to reach their destination.
However, the problem is that rickshaws have become the main mode of transport due to lack of public transport. The drivers are charging as much as they want.
It was also seen on the spot that Amin Bazar and Gabtali, the to Dhaka entrances to the northern and north-western districts, are under strict police surveillance and all going car and motorcycle were searched. But the passengers returning to Dhaka from far and wide are walking by the side of the check post.
Expatriate worker Nazir Patwari told the media that I came to Aminbazar from Savar by a rickshaw with 60 taka. Now I want to go to Hatirjheel area. But a rickshaw demands Taka 400 as fare. Asked why he came to Dhaka, he said, “Tomorrow is my flight.” That is why I am coming to Dhaka.
A garment worker named Rajib said that he was told by the office authority to open everything from Sunday. So he had to come to Dhaka. It generally cost about 150 taka to come at another time, but this time it took 500 taka to come, he added.
Members of Traffic police were seen searching at Gabtali point of Amin Bazar Bridge. Just as those who had valid reasons are being released, if they come out without any reason, the case has to be counted in the vehicle.
Amin Bazar Bridge Police Sub-Inspector in Charge. Baijid Mollah told the media that many people are returning to Dhaka as the ban expires next week. However, those who could not show proper reasons are being fined.
