The city residents returned to Dhaka after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with their kith and kin at their hometowns and villages, as there was no tailback on the way.
Though the Eid celebration was peaceful, many passengers complained of scarcity and additional fare of tickets.
Moderate crowds were seen at Kamalapur Railway Station and bus and launch terminals in the capital on Saturday as offices reopen today..
Most of the trains arrived at Kamalapur Railway Station in time on Saturday, said acting Station Manager.
Dhaka’s Sadarghat area was also busy, since 75 launches anchored there till 12:30pm on Saturday, said Alamgir Kabir, Joint Director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
Many Water Vessels were found cruising between Shimulia and Kathalbari and Paturia and Daulatdia ghats, and on other routes,report our local correspondents.
From Shimulia point, ferries started almost empty, but returned from Kathalbari packed with vehicles, according to our Munshiganj correspondent.
A total of 18 ferries are operating on the route to transport people. “That is why, there was no traffic congestion in the terminals on both the sides yet”, said Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Shimulia point.
“We are working to help people reach their destinations safely.” the AGM commented.
On the other hand, increasing pressures on both Daulatdia point at Rajbari and Paturia point at Manikganj were seen since morning.
In total, 20 ferries were operating for making the the journeys smooth, said Shafikul Islam, Manager of BIWTC at Daulatdia office.
