Awami League Advisory Council member and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said people cast their vote on December 30 general polls against the BNP-Jamaat and militant outfits.
“The victory of Awami League is the reflection of people’s longstanding distress against BNP-Jamaat and militancy,” he told journalists on Tuesday at a view-exchange meeting at his secretariat office here.
Describing the recent Jatiya Sangsad polls as a historic one, Tofail said that Jatiya Oikyafront witnessed huge defeat due to lack of their enough preparation for the 11th parliamentary election and isolation of its leaders from the people.
“Oikyafront nominated their candidates for the JS polls without calculation . . . Simultaneously the nominees even did not visit their respective electoral areas in last 10 years,” Tofail added.
Referring to the destructive activities, including killings of many innocent people through arson attack in 2013, 2014 and 2015, by the BNP-Jamaat clique, he said common people are yet to forget it.
The minister said the young generation, who are dreaming of building a digital Bangladesh, also voted for the ‘Boat’, this year.
Tofail said the polls were inclusive and participatory as 39 political parties took part in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad polls on December 30.
The minister was very critical of Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain and said, “He (Kamal) was the foreign minister and also law minister in Bangabandhu’s cabinet but he immersed his ideals and formed coalition with anti-Liberation Jamaat-e-Islami and militant forces.”
