Offenders use cops' tools for crimes:6 fake DB personnel held in city

A number of offender gangs have been committing crimes, including kidnapping, snatching, extorting, raping and grabbing for few yeas in the name of detectives which confusing the countrymen about the identity of fake or genuine of law enforcers, intelligence sources said.
They also use identity card of detective branch (DB) of Police, cop’s uniform, handcuffs, firearms and other tools during committing crimes, they said.
The fake members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and detectives also draw the stickers of law enforcing agencies on the vehicles across the country, said Mufti Mahmud, Commander of Legal and Medial Wing of the elite force.
They criminals are targeting different professionals, specially political activists, expatriates, businessmen and bankers, the RAB official said.
The victim people do not get any chance to raise any question to the fake cop members during the incidents, Police Headquarters sources said.
The countrymen surrender to the criminals and fulfill the demand of the evil people to save the life from them, they said.
At least 30 gangs are active and they are committing crimes in the name of detectives and RAB, DB sources said.
About 200 fake DB members of crime gangs were arrested across the country, mainly in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Chittagong, Rangpur, Sylhet, in last 6 months, they claimed.
The law enforcing agencies are losing image crisis over the issue, they added.  
Meanwhile, RAB in a drive arrested six fake DB policemen along with two women in
the city’s Uttara on Thursday night. The gang usually trapped people with the two women and later blackmailed the victims, RAB-1 Commanding Officer (CO) Tuhin Mohammad Masud told the New Nation on Friday.
The team also recovered one handcuff, three police ID cards, a camera used for blackmailing victims, Tk 22, 450 in cash, that was earned by blackmailing victims and nine mobile phone handsets.
The arrested persons are Khairul Alom Prokash alias Rabiul, 42, Pannu Miah, 35, Saiful Islam Niloy, 25, Khairul Islam Monir, 32, Shamima Akhter Trishna, 27, and Umme Tasnin, 19.
A RAB team led by Superintendent of Police (city and transport) of RAB 1 Mohammad Sumon Jahid Lovel, arrested Khairul and Pannu from Majibor Market of West Faidabad under Daksinkhan Police Station around 11:30pm.
Based on their information, the team arrested four others near Uttara Girls High School of Uttara house building area.
Earlier on June 25, five fake personnel of detective branch (DB) were arrested with walkie-talkie, handcuff, uniform of Police and a private car from Khilgaon area in the capital, said Sheikh Najmul Alam of DMP.
On June, 20, detectives in separate drives arrested four fake members of DB and four muggers from two different areas in the city, DMP said.
DB also recovered one fake pistol, one handcuff, a walkie-talkie and one bomb from their possession. During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they had been looting money and other valuables from the people claiming themselves as DB personnel, said DC Nazmul.
On June 18, Sohel, former Vice-President (VP) of BCL’s Morapara University College unit has been picked up allegedly by DB.
Sohel’s family claimed that some plainclothes men identifying themselves as DB personnel picked up him from the house of his relatives in Jatrabari in Dhaka. But, DB East zone ADC Rakib said: “Sohel has not been picked up by any official of my zone. We have even talked to Jatrabari police but even they did not pick up anyone from that area.”
On June 9, Police arrested four fake members of DB of Police along with firearms from Dhaka bypass road in Bhogra Naujor area of Gazipur, said Khandakar Rezaul Karim, OC of Joydebpur Police Station.
On May 20, law enforcers, in several drives, detained four fake Detective Branch (DB) police and four muggers from various areas of the city, said Muntasirul Islam, spokesman of DMP. He said that they recovered two fake pistols, one walkie-talkie, one handcuff, one crude bomb and a private car from them.
May 19, six fake members including a woman of DB of Police were held from the city’s Badda area. The team recently kidnapped one Sadhan Chandra Das from Bajitpur of Kishoreganj and detained him in a flat at Badda identifying them as DB men and then released him after received Taka 2. 33 lakh from his family members.
May 8, a gang of muggers, who introduced themselves as the members of DB of Police, snatched Tk 6 lakh from a marketing officer and his colleague in city’s Dhanmondi area.
On March 12, BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed’s family claimed that law enforcers picked him up from a Uttara house in the capital.
On January 12, at least 12 security personnel of Jamuna Future Park Ltd were held on charges of wearing dresses similar to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Members of RAB-1 conducted a raid at Jamuna Future Park area and picked them for wearing black dresses like them, a RAB press release said.
January 8, Police arrested a fake officer of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police from Grand Hotel intersection in Rangpur, said Ferdous Wahid, Sub-Inspector of Kotwali Police Station, quoted witnesses as saying that Sumon posing himself as the OC of district DB police, intercepted a youth passing through the area around 10:00am and demanded money from him.
On January 8, Police arrested two RAB impersonators while they were taking money from some gamblers in Janata Bazar area of Nandail upazila in Mymensingh district, said Ayub Rahman, OC of Nandail Police Station.
Contacted, the chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman Khan urged the law enforcing agencies not to arrest anybody from anywhere in plane-clothes. “Cop members must show their identity cards to him whom they want to arrest and must ensure his safety after picking up.
“Law enforcers may arrest anybody in the presence of at least two local persons as witnesses and produce him or her in the court within 24 hours after arrest,” the NHRC boss said.
The NHRC chairman said that the members of law enforcing agencies should not turn into terrorists in the name of resisting terrorism in the country. “The state should ensure the security and uphold the humanity of the people,” the NHRC chairman said. He urged the Home Ministry to supply the necessary documents and reports of arrest to the NHRC office within 24 hours.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidl Hoque has said to the reporter at police headquarters recently that they already have ordered the law enforcing agencies to take necessary steps against the criminals.
“We are committed to control the law and order situation an any cost,” the IGP said.
Law enforcers, including detective are survevaliging the movement of the criminals and they are alert any sabotages activities, the police boss said.
