The Central Jail authority is arranging to give experience of imprisonment to the members of the public without arresting them as prisoners. They will, however, have to pay a certain amount to be decided afterward.
Inspector General of Prison Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin said on Friday in a press briefing at the old Central Jail in the city.
At the briefing, he said, “The members of the public will be allowed to take the taste under the project of ‘feel for prison.” Old Central Jail will be prepared accordingly.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit the old Central Jail soon. ‘Feel for prison’ project will be in action after 15 days of her visit, said Brigadier Syed Iftekhar Uddin.
This briefing was arranged in memory of those national leaders who were killed on November 3 in 1975. Special programs will be arranged between 1 to 5 November in order to observe the Jail Killing Day, said Inspector General of Prison.
He added that the Old Central Jail would be opened to public for four days from November 2. Jail authority will open its premises for the city residents through a photo exhibition marking the Jail Killing Day.
Bangladesh Jail Authority and Journey, a voluntary organisation, are organizing the photo exhibition to be opened on November 1. Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin said, ‘Rare photographs of Bangabandhu and four national leaders will be displayed in the exhibition.’
The visitors will have to purchase a ticket worth Tk 100 to enter the jail premises.
