State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the killing of Shaikh Nurul Islam Farooqi and the triple murder in Moghbazar are nothing serious. The home boss also suggested not to worry over the two incidents. On Wednesday night, unidentified armed assailants slaughtered Farooqi, a presenter of religious programmes on TV Channel at his residence in the capital’s East Rajabazar area. The following day three people were shot dead in Moghbazar area in the city allegedly over feud related to land business.
We do not want to hear who have been killed for what political reason. Any murder is the worst crime and no government worth its name can say free killing taking place everyday including in the capital city Dhaka is nothing serious. We know politics itself has become a game of murder in our country and prosecuting for murder. The criminal justice system is being abused by taking persons into police remand. There is no need for criminal investigative agencies to know beforehand how to stop known murderers. Under a government that depends on police power cannot be efficient in fighting crime.
Two people, including a woman were detained from Rupganj area of the district over the murder of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat leader Shaikh Nurul Islam Farooqi. The detainees are Mahmuda, who introduced herself as Asma and met the slain Islamic scholar several hours before the murder on Wednesday and one Shariful Islam. A Dhaka court yesterday placed two persons on a five-day remand in connection with Thursday’s triple murder at Moghbazar in the capital. The arrestees — Faruk Hossain and Sohel Khan — are close allies of Kailla Babu, the prime accused in the case filed over the murder. The persons arrested during primary interrogation, confessed their involvement with the killings. So, they should be put on remand for further quizzing, the investigation officer told the court. The police seem not to depend on any information from agencies.
Comparative crime statistics for Bangladesh as kept by the police show an increase of 25.4 percent in the number of murder cases filed in the country from 2002 to 2013 (from 3503 to 4293)-which is in itself a pretty significant increase. However, while the murderers from these two recent cases appear to have been found certain other high profile murders have not yet been properly investigated-among them the murders of the journalists Sagor and Runi, the torture and death of Aminul Islam, a prominent labour rights activist,and the disappearance of Elias Ali, Secretary of the Sylhet Division of the BNP.
Meanwhile in the sensational seven murder case of Narayangonj where seven men, including Narayanganj City councilor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted on Apr 27 and their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakhyya River several days later, three former RAB-11 officials – ex-commander Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, Arif Hossain and MM Rana — have reportedly confessed to their crimes in court. Habildar Emdadul Haque, Lance Nayek Md Hira Miah and Sepoy Taiyab Ali separately gave confessional statements in three courts of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate on Saturday, prosecution lawyer K M Fazlur Rahman said. Police on Aug 27 arrested five more RAB personnel posted at Narayanganj-11 unit during the sensational murders. They were sent on eight-day remand in the case filed by Islam’s wife Selina Islam on Wednesday.
In many cases police arrested some persons showing them accused. In some other cases police are seen making no progress. It is also not known in many cases whether the accused have been tried at all.
The people know who are the Ministers and how they have become what they are. But police are a professional force trained to save the people from murderers. The most of the murderers are hired ones and the police can stop them easily. All murders should be treated equally-one murder should not be more important than another.
