Certainly, we are in the clutches of syndicate whose pernicious presence pervades every walk of our life. And there is no guarantee that we would be able to come out of it soon, or even if at all. They have only one interest and that is maximum profit, people be damned! Like all-powerful cabals, they are well linked with power that is to shield them or bail them out when in trouble. The protectors are also beneficiaries of the syndicate’s bounty.
Media report in a national daily on Thursday said the prices of daily essentials have become uncontrollable, though there are no natural disasters, no drought and recession, excepting prolonged floods in some northern districts. Yet there is exorbitant high price of commodities. Particularly, the prices of potatoes, brinjals and green chillies
have doubled just in a month.
have doubled just in a month.
According to economists, the farmers who produce rice, lentil and vegetables are not getting the higher price. They have long ago sold their crops to wholesalers at low prices. Goods are now in the warehouses of big traders and hoarders. These syndicates are now controlling the market. They reduce the supply of goods stored in their warehouses, create artificial crises, and raise prices. It seems that this money-greedy syndicate is the main controller of the market, not the government.
Unfortunately, the government knows about the misdeeds of the syndicate. Where the goods have been stored is not unknown. Occasionally, many warehouses were seized and a lot of goods were recovered. But the octopus called Syndicate is not going to be eliminated in an impunity culture.
However, the economists stressed for ensuring enhanced supply chain of goods keeping equilibrium with the consumers’ demands. During the global pandemic, the issue of rising commodity prices is extremely inhumane. This situation is also detrimental to good governance and civic happiness. To protect the people from the unnatural pressure of commodity prices, there is no alternative of strong market monitoring.
There is nobody to help people against the mighty syndicates which control the market. In fact, we have a government of that syndicates and no government to interfere. We have a talking government doing nothing. The syndicates are the government, so we appeal to syndicates to take into consideration the economic suffering due to high prices of daily essentials. Syndicates do not care that many have lost jobs. The people are suffering under oppressive control of syndicates.
