UNB, Mymensingh :
The indefinite strike, called by the general students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) seeking arrest and capital punishment of the killers of Saad Inbe Momtaz, is being observed peacefully on the campus on Tuesday.
The strike was called also to press for other demands that include filing case against the killers, publishing the report of the probe committee and ensuring security to the general students.
Campus sources said, several hundred students boycotting their classes at around 10:00am gathered in front of the Livestock Faculty and locked some rooms of the faculty building.
On information, some officials of the administration rushed to the spot and opened those.
Later, the agitating students brought out a protest procession and marched through the campus streets.
They gathered in front of the administrative building and staged a demonstration voicing their demands.
They went round different faculties of the university at that time to check whether any class was being held defying their boycott programme, sources said.
The agitating students said they will continue their strike until their demands are met.
Earlier, on April 9, the university authorities expelled three students of the university and suspended another three for various terms as the Board of Residence and Students Disciplinary Committee at a meeting recommended the actions.
On Monday last, the university authorities formed a three-member committee to look into why the students are not returning to classes despite punitive actions taken against the six students.
Saad, a final year student of the Fisheries Faculty of the university, was beaten to death allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League BAU unit.
