The BNP has been holding peaceful agitation programme with three objectives. These include making the party stronger and well-disciplined, bringing the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia out of jail,
and to hold election under polls time government.
The party high-command thinks that continuous movements are strengthening the party from its root levels.
“The government has sent Begum Khaleda Zia behind the bar in a false case. But our leaders and activists throughout the country have remained unprovoked and steady. They are taking to streets almost everyday demanding Khaleda Zia’s release from jail. The peaceful and continuous programme makes our organisation stronger and capable than previous days. It will be helpful to boost our workers morale to realise our demand for polls time neutral government,” Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, BNP Standing Committee member told The New Nation on Thursday.
He said, the government has kept our party men on run filing thousands of cases against them. But now the workers and leaders feel that their back is facing the wall. In this situation, the leaders and workers are willingly taking to the streets nowadays.
Senior leaders of the party said, there were huge pressures from the party men to choose hard line agitation programme.
The leaders and workers have become angry over their chairperson’s conviction.
But the high-command had taken different strategy to introduce new type of agitation for long term positive effects.
As per the strategy, the party started different peaceful public relation based programme including organising human chain, hunger strike and mass signature campaign.
As a result the activists and supporters of the party, who made themselves inactive to avoid police harassments, have become active and gained indomitable energy.
They said, such peaceful programme is not zeopardising public peace.
So, the root level activists of the party and its general supporters are retaking part in those programmes.
It gradually strengthens the party from its root level, said senior leaders. “The government wants to keep its political oppositions silent for ever. As per their plan, they seriously provoked our party men on February 8. But, our party men have shown patience. It is gradually proved that the patience is giving good result as the people’s support making the party stronger,” BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told The New Nation.
Alal also said, they are in movement to bring Khaleda Zia out of prison, make the party stronger and to compel the government to hold inclusive polls.
Political analysts also praised the non-violent programme of the BNP.
They said the party high-command has taken the right decision shunning the path of conflicts.
“The BNP has taken wise decision by announcing people relation based and peaceful agitation programme. Such kind of programme should be followed by other political parties to eliminate the long day’s bad culture of political conflicts. It may help the BNP to attain more popularity. As a result, the party may achieve its goal,” Professor Dr. Md. Sharif Uddin of Jahangirnagar University told The New Nation.
He said also that if the party continue such agitation, it may able to gain its all goals.
