The amount of arrear power bills of Power Development Board (PDB) in Southern Zone of Chittagong has been increasing alarmingly recently.
The arrears increased following the non-payment of bills by the government and autonomous bodies . PDB sources said the amount of arrears up to March last stands at Tk350 crores.
The consumers of PDB in this zone is about 9 lakh65 thousands and bills realizing in every months on average 210 crores , but non payment of bills by the government owned organisations, the arrear amount increasing gradually.
Sources said at present , there is no outstanding against the private consumers. Mentionable that non-Bengali camps and religious organizations in the port city are not totally paying the power bills and the few government organisations are paying bills once in a year. So the amount of arrears are gradually increasing .
PDB sources said despite reminders for payment of the arrear bills to government owned bodies , no positive results yet to be sighted and hence PDB compels to conduct mobile courts for realization and disconnection of power line.
Deputy Director of PDB, Chittagong Md Nizamuddin told that mobile court regularly conducting to snap connections, realisation of arrear bills and any unfair means in service line.
He further said the arrears of Tk350 crores will be realised gradually along with the current bills.
