The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has presented Assistant Sub-Inspector Raihanul Islam, the prime accused in a gang rape case, before a court in Rangpur and asked for a remand order to further interrogate him.
PBI took the accused to the court premises around 4pm on Thursday amid tight security and asked the Senior Judicial Magistrate to issue a seven-day remand.
However, the court will decide on the matter on November 4, fixing it to be the next remand hearing date.
PBI arrested Raihanul from the District Police Lines around 9:30pm on Wednesday after he was charged with raping and assisting the gang rape of a girl in Rangpur city.
Besides, two accused in the alleged gang rape have already given their confessional statements under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before the Rangpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday evening.
Earlier, the victim disclosed the name of the police officer in her statement made under section 22 of the Criminal Code of Procedure before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Rangpur.
Two other accused — Abul Kalam Azad and Babul Hossain — were also produced before the court on Wednesday evening when they confessed to their involvement in the incident.
Raihan took the girl to the house of Meghla on October 23 following a love affair between them and raped her with the help of Meghla.
She returned home in the evening after spending the whole day with Raihan when her mother rebuked her.
In a huff, the schoolgirl rushed out of their house and took shelter in the house of a tenant known to Raihan where two unknown men violated her the following day.
