Leaders of Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad (PBCP), a student body of settlers in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), on Saturday demanded the authorities concerned to cancel CHT land dispute resolution act-2016, passed at Jatiya Sangsad on October 6 this month. PBCP leaders said Bengali people will have to face eviction threat if the act is activated. They urged the government to cancel the act as early as possible otherwise they will initiate tougher movement aiming to ensure their constitutional rights.
PBCP leaders also demanded the removal of CHT Land Commission Chairman, terming him partial and unfriendly for CHT Bengali people. They urged it from a protest meeting held at Shapla Chattar intersection in the hill town around 11am.
PBCP central unit Vice President Engineer Md Abdul Mazid, its Joint Organizing Secretary Mohammad Asad, its member Mohi Uddin and Nazrul Islam spoke at the protest meeting.
Earlier, a rally started from town hall premises and ended at Shapla Chattar intersection after parading main roads in hill town Khagrachhari. Hundreds people took part at the rally and chanted slogans to cancel the land dispute resolution act.
