The activities of the 1320 MW Payra Thermal Power Plant in Kalapara of Patuakhali was suspended on Wednesday following the sequel clashes between the Chinese and the local workers.
The situation went out of the control of the law enforcing agencies as one Chinese and another local workers were killed and several others received serious injuries.
The authorities concerned on Tuesday declared the suspension of all types of activities to avert any untoward situation that may lead to further casualties and massive clashes between the foreign and the domestic workers, reports our Patuakhali Correspondent quoting the workers and police.
The injured Chinese workers were sent to Dhaka for better treatment as their conditions were deteriorating in Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.
Plant’s executive engineer Rezwan Iqbal Khan said that Bangladeshi worker Shabis Chandra Das died after falling from a boiler on Tuesday afternoon.
The death led to a clash between Bangladeshi and Chinese workers that left 10 Bangladeshis and six Chinese workers injured.
The injured were sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where Chinese Jung Yang Sung died on Wednesday.
In the meantime, State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Matiul Islam Chowdhury and Superintendent of Police (SP) Moinul Hasan visited the spot.
They gave necessary instructions to authorities to restore discipline in the plant as early as possible.
Three separate investigation committees have been formed to investigate the incident and the committees were asked to submit the report in a short time, said DC Matiul Islam Chowdhury.
He claimed that the situation remained under control of the law enforcing agencies.
