Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has said that the Payra port at Patuakhali would be developed into a full-fledged sea port by the year 2023
The minister was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by Barisal Divisional Society (BDS) at Novo Tower in the city yesterday, a press release said here Tuesday.
BDS convener Sirajuddin Ahmed presided over the function while Nasima Ferdoushi Mp, former secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar, former secretary M Ismail, Secretary Yunusur Rahman and Journalist Ojoy Das Gupta also addressed the function.
The minister said, Awami League Government implemented many development works for streamlining river communication including modernization of Barisal River Port Terminal building, setting up of Marin Academy, Deck and Engine
Personnel Training Center (DEPTC), reformation of Patuakhali River Port and Terminal building, Payra Sea Port and development of Bhola Launch and Feri Ghat
He also said Payra Sea Port would become a full sea port within 2023.
Two costal ships and two stemmers would be built for creating better communication links for the southern community, he added.
