Researchers and experts on Wednesday expressed that patenting of technologies is very helpful in increasing the innovativeness and quality of research.
They also said that patenting would also help in conserving the national intellect and development of the country. They were addressing a workshop on Patentable Technology Selection in Jainul Abedin Auditorium on BAU campus.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Akbar addressed the programme as chief guest with Prof Dr Lutful Hasan in the chair.
In his keynote speech Prof Dr Lutful Hasan said that three technologies, developed by the researchers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), would be submitted to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for patenting through the newly established Technology Transfer Office.
Another speaker Prof Dr Jahiruddin indicated that a technology is patentable if it is novel and innovative.
Prof Dr Serajul Islam said that Technology Transfer Office will work with copy right, trade mark and patent-intellectual property right of technology developed BAU researchers.
The Technology Transfer Office also asked the researchers to submit their works to evaluate and process for patenting.
The deans of different faculties and teachers of different departments attended the workshop.
