Police arrested Enamul Haque (35), the night watchman of Nilphamari passport office, for alleged bribery at Passport Regional office in the city on Wednesday.
He was handed over to police in the presence of district administration officials in connection with the allegations against Nazir Hossain, (29), of Kundal area of Saidpur upazila.
Nazir Hossain alleged, “I have been here for a few days to pass the passports of my family.” He was not taking the form after completing the form in the correct way. At one point, Enamul advised me to get the job done for a quick payment of Tk.25Thousand. When I informed the General Secretary of the Nilphamari district BCL, Masud Sarkar, he sent two of his staff Khorshed and Hatem to the passport office and they took video of receiving bribe money from the night watchman of the passport office.
General Secretary of the district BCL Masud Sarkar said, we took the video to the Deputy Assistant Director Shahid Ulah, and informed the administration if they tried to suppress the matter.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Azharul Islam and Nejarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Mahbub Hossain were present at the spot and assured them of proper investigation and took necessary action.
At this time, Enamul Haque confessed to taking the money and said, “Not only I, this money go to the officials.
However, Deputy Assistant Director Shahid Ullah said, “I did not know the matter.” If anyone else is involved, necessary action will be taken.
