The Bangladesh railway cannot ensure proper service to the passengers even in this Eid-ul-Fitr as the inter-city coaches are operating without required number of attendants.
As per the railway rule, an attendant is a must for each inter-city coach whereas an attendant is given duty for four coaches. Though the train went journey in long distance, the single attendant cannot respond to the needs of the passengers.
Railway sources said, the number of coach is around 15 in each inter-city train in East and West zones of Bangladesh Railway, where only four attendants are allotted for an intercity train. It means each attendant has to perform duty for four coaches that is impossible and the cause of deteriorated the quality of rail service.
As result, many people are travelling in Air Conditioned chair coach and chair coaches though the (travelers) booked ticket for normal saloon coach. Even some times without tickets people are travelling in chair coach and first class coaches.
Due to lack of enough attendants, the inter-city train authority cannot prevent the entrance of additional passengers in the chair coach, AC coaches and first class coaches.
On the other hand, the legal travelers have been becoming embarrass while saw that additional passengers or without ticket people are tacking similar facilities. Sometimes illegal travelers without tickets found seated in the seat of the passengers, who booked the seat earlier and maintain all legal procedure.
The passengers cannot get anyone in the coach to complain such problem as an attendant remained on duty for four coaches.
Sources said, 156 attendants are working officially of which 33 are on leave, retirement or sick in the east zone of railway though post is 215 for attendant.
As per the new manpower rule of railway, 512 attendants are required. The crisis was temporarily meet by appointing necessary attendants though outsourcing, which is easy and inexpensive for railway. But appointment of manpower in sourcing system is off due to decision of Railway Ministry.
The Railway authorities have requested to appoint attendants through outsourcing system to get relief of the existing crisis in railway. They are waiting for decision of the ministry in this regard.
