Court Correspondent :The Women and Children Repression Prevention-4 of Dhaka on Wednesday awarded Parimal Joydhar, a sacked teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, life term imprisonment for molesting a class- X student of the same institute in 2011. Judge Saleh Uddin Ahmed of the tribunal pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon in presence of the convict. The court also fined Parimal Tk 50,000, in default, he will suffer rigorous imprisonment for six months more. According to the case statement, Parimal, a Bangla teacher of Bhasundhara branch of the institute sexually assaulted the girl on May 28 and June 17 of 2011. He took the girl in a room of his house and assaulted her twice. He also captured his indecent acts on his mobile telephone in his private coaching centre-cum-residence. He threatened the girl that he would float the footage and the photos on the internet if she disclose a the incident. Later, the victim lodged a written complaint to the school authorities, but the principal Hosne Ara Begum with some teachers allegedly tried to save Parimal. The 59-year-old school seemed plunged into trouble after the incident sparked protests among students and their guardians. After days of protests, the school sacked Parimal on July 5, 2011. The same day, the victim’s father filed a case with Badda Police Station, accusing Parimal, Hosne Ara and Lutfur Rahman, the head of the school’s Bashundhara branch.Detectives arrested Parimal from his relative’s house at Keraniganj on July 7 of the same year. He made confessional statement in a court on July 11, four days after his arrest, admitting his involvement in the incident under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Badda Police Station and Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet of the case to the court on August 11, 2011 dropping the names of Hosne Ara and Lutfur Rahman.The court framed charges against Parimal on March 7, 2012. The trial began on June 6 of the same year and it took over three years to conclude the sensational criminal case.
