The parents of quota reform leader Rashed Khan on Monday claimed their son is innocent and feared his life safety because of repeated threat given by the of ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
They expressed their frustration at the 10-day fresh remand order. Rashed’s parents said, their son may lose job facilities in future due to the link of the two baseless cases.
Nobai Biswas and Saleha Begum, parents of Rashed, Joint Convener of quota reformist platform ‘Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad,’ burst into tears while speaking with The New Nation on Monday.
“Our son is innocent. Police are trying to beat drum quoting his confessional statement under custody. We found him moving almost in abnormal state on Dhaka court premises on Sunday,” they claimed.
“If Rashed lose memory in custody, then we will lose hope of our lives to take the charge of family. We have mortgaged our land to the bank to support his educational expenses. Now we have no meaning of living in the world,” they said.
We had confidence that Rashed had the ability to get a good job after completing his study. He has already obtained his master degree in Banking Department under Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) faculty of Dhaka university. But police again took him under custody. In this situation, how it is possible to manage a job, they opined.
We have received threats from three BCL men from unknown mobile phone numbers recently, they claimed.
“After all, we are in dark about the safety and job facilities of Rashed,” they added.
In query, they said that they had no idea about the transaction of Tk seven lakh through Rashed’s bank account.
Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asssaduzzaman Nur on Sunday ordered the 10-day remand in two cases, fresh after Rashed’s five-day remand period ended.
One of the cases is under the ICT Act while the other was filed for assaulting police and preventing them from discharging their duties in April.
Detectives produced Rashed in the court and sought him in 20-day remand.
Rafiqul Islam, Investigation Officer(IO) and Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, informed that they found transaction of Tk seven lakh in the account of Rashed.
The defense counsel advocate Jayedur Rahman informed the court that money was transacted from different accounts of demonstrated students, not from either a businessman or any suspected man. The range of transaction amount was Tk 100 from 500 to bear the cost of banners, festoons and loud speakers.
The court also told the lawyer why Tk seven lakh was needed for quota movement?
According to case statement, Rashed allegedly demeaned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook on June 27, an allegation the quota reform leader disowned.
Rashed, Joint Convener of quota reform movement, was detained from Bhasantek, Dhaka, on July 1 at a time when the government went offensive against the activists.
He was later shown arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act on the day. Bangladesh Chhatra League Law Affairs secretary Al-Nahian Khan Joy filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station.
Also during that time, ruling Awami League’s student front Chhatra League cracked down on the activists – beating them up mercilessly in Dhaka and elsewhere.
