Amid the countrywide drive against corruption by the present government, a panicky and alarming situation is prevailing in the Sylhet Awami League (AL) and its other associate bodies. Many of the AL, Jubo League (JL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders, who were involved in the corruption, are passing now a panic-stricken life. Many of them now planning to go abroad for escaping any arrest.
Meanwhile, the different sources informed that the corrupted leaders are now playing silent role in their politics and want to develop their good relations with the clean image leader.
In Sylhet, tender commission business, party post business, extortion from different stone quarry and land graving are the main business for any political leaders.
Sources said that many of the corrupt leaders divided into many groups to run their illegal business. They also have a BNP and Jamath political men in their family to shelter them each other in the politics. They have good ties with BNP and Jamath in their business policy. Earlier, a national popular Bangla Daily newspaper gave a serious report about the different corruption in education sector in Sylhet division.
When asked about the anti-corruption drive in Sylhet, Zedan Al Musa, ADC of Sylhet metropolitan police said, it is a continuous process against the corruption. However, he cannot elaborate about the recent countrywide drive against the corruption to this reporter.
