The 2nd Chengi Union Parishad building in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari district has come to a standstill with the collapse of the hillock. A part of the building has already been demolished due to extensive demolition.
It is known on the ground that the eastern part of the UP building of the eighties has been washed away by the arrow in the strong current of Pujgang Chhara. Goods have been removed. The UP chairman and members are doing their daily work in the rest of the country with some kind of risk.
Chengi UP chairman Kala Chad Chakma said the eastern part of the Union Parishad building has been slowly collapsing in the last three years. Since there is no building, I am working at risk in the broken old building. I have applied to various places including Upazila Chairman, UNO, LGED.
Allocation has also come. First of all, the new building did not work due to land issues. Local resident Binod Baran donated 40 acres of land for the Chakma Union Parishad building and explained the land. I also explained it to the Upazila Executive Officer and the Upazila Engineer.
Even then, it was not known that the work of Union Parishad building was not going on due to some invisible reason. The 2nd Chengi Union Parishad building is on the verge of extinction due to the collapse of the hillock.
Panchhari Upazila Engineer Arun Kumar Das said differently about the UP building. He said the Chengi Union Parishad has an allocation. I have sent the documents related to the land through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer. Even then, if the UP chairman ends the land issue, the building will be demolished.
Pujgang Mukh High School headmaster Shanti Moy Chakma, while talking to several people including Nutan Dhan Chakma of Madhumangal Para, said that even though the local government department has built modern Union Parishad buildings across the country, it is the 2nd Chengi Union of Panchhari Upazila in Khagrachhari. The council building has not been rebuilt since it collapsed. On the other hand, the Union Parishad is disappearing due to the water of Pujgang Chhara. The common man is being deprived of the civic benefits.
Large accidents can happen if a small arrow is not protected. Besides, the locals have sought the cooperation of the concerned administration to get civic benefits by constructing UP buildings in new places.
