BSS, Panchagarh :
With completion of harvesting, farmers in the district are happy with a bumper production of jute and market price of the cash crop in the current season.
Sources with the local Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said the farmers in the district have achieved a bumper production of jute this year. The farmers are also happy with the present lucrative market price of their produce.
Depending on quality and varieties, the jute price is now ranging between Taka 2100 and Taka 2200 per mound.
The DAE sources said jute was cultivated on 10,000 hectares of land in the district this year.
Subash Chandra, a jute farmer of Sadar upazila, said, “I cultivated jute on 5 bighas of land. I have earned a profit of Taka 30,000 by selling jute.”
DAE official Abdulla-Al-Mamun said the government supplied adequate seeds, fertilizer and insecticides to the jute farmers to ensure a good yield of the cash crop. He said a favourable climatic condition also helped the farmers to achieve the bumper production.
