When some fifty years ago, I emerged Khulna district champion, Rajshahi University champion and finished runner-up in East Pakistan combined universities swimming championship at the age of around 20 in 1965, I did not imagine that I would get the opportunity of swimming in the superb swimming pool of Sonargaon Hotel some fifty years later.
At the end of May last, I along with my eleven-year old grandson, Aleef Sarar Sharif who is now living with his parents in Los Angeles, USA, got down to swim at the swimming pool of Sonargaon. My main purpose was to train up my grandson with the art of swimming. When we were in the swimming pool two foreigners and a local elderly person were also in the pool. None of them knew the art of swimming for taking part in competition where a competitor has to use both legs and hands for propelling forward. All of them were seen swimming using only their hands for propelling forward.
US national Eldridge J. Mac Ewan who joined Pan Pacific Sonargaon five years ago in 2010 is said to be a very efficient General Manager of the hotel. Asked to give his comment about Pan Pacific Sonargaon, he said, “It is dynamic,” while talking to me in the morning on 24 November last.
