Palm juice extractors of char areas under Sadar Upazila in the district are getting a good benefit from extraction of palm juice and selling it molasses, amid a brisk business of summer seasonal food item.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj officials sources said, a total of 127 hectares of palm trees land in five upazilas of the district here. Which about 1,475 metric tonnes (MT) of palm molasses are produce annually concerned sources said, a farmers can produce 80 to 90 kilogram of molasses from a single palm tree in a season normally which market price about taka 9,000. As there is no need to extra care for the trees, it may by a very profitable business, the sources said.
During the summer season, palm juice is very appetizing drinks in our country. The extraction starts from the beginning of Bangla month Chaitra and it continuing to Asar. The man who extracts juice is locally called “gachhi’ now the extracts are busy for collection of palm juice from trees in this region locally sources said about 100 palm juice extraction of char areas under Sadar upazila involved palm juice extraction.
Ataur Kazi (45), an extractor (gachhi) of village Char Dhalaitala under Jalalabad union of Sadar upazila in the district told this Correspondent last 10 years back he has been woking on palm juice extraction and making palm molasses. Now he extracting on 18 palm trees and everyday he getting about 15 k.g of palm molasses from those trees which market price about taka 1,500 one stage he said if the demand of palm molasses is less in our areas but other district demand is high like Sylhet, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Dinajpur etc. Ataur added.
Jafar Molla (55), another extractor (gachhi) of same village under Sadar upazila said, he has been working extraction on 30 plam trees everyday. He getting 40 to 50 pitchers of juice from those trees which market price taka 2,500 to 3,000 one stage he said he learnet this work (plam extraction) from his father from boyhood. Now one glass of plam juice is being selling at taka 10 (Ten) in locally and totally he earned above income about taka 2,00,000 from his palm juice extraction profession in a season, Jafar said while talking him about this.
Binay Krishna Biswas, Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAD), Jalalabad union under Sadar upazila said a huge quality of palm trees land here in this region and local extractors are busy now for extraction of palm juice and makikng molasses from it. Besides the excepting huge economical benefit from selling it around in a short duration, not only that where investment is less but return is big, Binay siad.
