State Minister for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak called for announcement of ICT Day on December 12 as on this day in 2008 Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina presented a Digital Bangladesh vision to the nation.
“The 12 December is very important for all of us as on this day in 2008 our leader Sheikh Hasina announced her Digital Bangladesh vision to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021,” he said this on Tuesday while exchanging views with the IT industry leaders on building future IT leaders here in the city. Palak said the country celebrates many important days every year, but one more important day – 12 December-should be added to celebrate as ICT Day to encourage people on ICT and know the development of Digital Bangladesh.
The IT industry people should come up with a call to announce 12 December as ICT Day, he added.
The minister also laid emphasis on diversification of trade to boost country’s economy and ICT could play vital role to contribute in the diversified economy.
“We have to utilize the country’s youth force who belongs to one third of the population for building a ICT driven society,” Palak said adding a country cannot be a ICT-driven without creating skilled manpower in ICT.
Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under ICT Division organized the function about the training process and course outline to build Fast Track Future IT Leader (FTFL) at the conference room of BCC.
Chaired by Acting Secretary of ICT Division Kamal Uddin Ahmed, the function was also addressed, among others, by LICT project director M Rezaul Karim, Professor of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University Syed Farhat Anwar and President of Bangladesh Organization for Learning and Development Kazi M Ahmed.
About 100 top officials of country’s IT organizations including Bangladesh Computer Samity President Mostafa Jabbar, Bangladesh Association of Software Information and Service (BASIS) general secretary Russel T Ahmed and immediate past president of BASIS Fahim Mashroor were present. Rezaul Karim said the LICT project will create a total of 30,000 IT professionals of which 4,000 graduates from colleges and universities will be developed as future IT leader for employment in the IT organizations.
Later, IT and ITES Team Leader of LICT project Fokhruz Zaman briefed about the training process and course outline for building Fast Track Future Leader (FTFL).
