A devastating bowling display by Shadab Khan and Hasan Mohsin saw Pakistan an overwhelming six-wicket victory over Afghanistan in their opening group B match of ICC Under-19 World Cup held on Thursday at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium in Sylhet.
Chasing a paltry winning target of 127 runs, Pakistan hardly had to sweat as they easily reached home making 129 in 31.3 overs with six wickets in hand.
Opener Zeeshan Malik (29) combined with Mohammad Umar (25) contributed 68 runs partnership for the second wicket stand after, Pakistan lost their skipper Gauhar Hafeez early.
Later Hasan Mosin (28 n.o) and Umar Masud ( 13 n.o) left the field confirming Pakistan emphatic victory.
Zia-Ur Rahman was the pick of Afghan bowler taking two wickets for 31 runs.
Earlier, invited to bat first by Pakistan, Afghanistan were cheaply dismissed at a paltry total of 126 in 41.2 overs in the face of discipline bowling display by the Pakistani bowlers with only three batsmen Tariq (53), Karim Janat (27) and Ikram Faizi (19) able to reach the double figure .
Middle order batsman Tariq saved Afghanistan from total embarrassment as he cracked five boundaries and one over boundary during his 76-ball stay on the crease.
Shadab caused the major damage for Afghanistan taking four wickets for nine runs. He was well supported by Hasan Mohsin who bagged three wickets giving away 24 runs.
Hasan Mohsin of Pakistan was named the player of the match.
