Pakistan piled up a fighting total of 308 for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs against South Africa in their match of the ICC World Cup Cricket at the Lord’s in London on Sunday.
Pakistan made a good start as openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq put on together 81 runs in the opening stand before Fakhar Zaman was caught at the first slip by Hashim Amla off Imran Tahir.
Fakhar Zaman hit a polished 44. His 50-ball innings had six fours and a six.
Then Imran Tahir struck again as Imam-ul-Haq was caught and bowled by Imran Tahir when Pakistan’s score was 98 for the loss of two wickets. Imam knocked a fine 44. His 58-ball innings saw six shots across the ropes.
One-down Babar Azam and second-down Mohammad Hafeez added together 45 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mohammad Hafeez (20) was trapped leg before wicket by Aiden Markram when Pakistan’s total was 143 for the loss of three wickets.
Babar Azam and third-down Haris Sohail contributed together 81 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Babar Azam was caught at the deep extra cover by Lungi Ngidi off Andile Phehlukwayo when Pakistan’s score was 224 for the loss of four wickets.
Babar Azam hit a splendid 69. His 80-ball knock was belted with seven fours.
After Babar’s dismissal, Haris Sohail and Imad Wasim added together 71 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Imad Wasim (23) was caught at the long-off by JP Duminy off Lungi Ngidi when Pakistan’s score was 295 for the loss of five wickets.
Fifth-down Wahab Riaz (4) was bowled out by Ngidi when Pakistan’s total was 304 for the loss of six wickets.
Haris Sohail was caught by Quinton de Kock off Ngidi when Pakistan’s score was 307 for the loss of seven wickets.
Haris hammered a superb 89. His 59-ball tornado innings was studded with three sexes and nine fours.
Ngidi grabbed three wickets instead of 64 runs, while Imran Tahir bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 41 runs.
Markram and Phehlukwayo took one wicket apiece.
