Pakistan clinched the two-match Test series 1-0 when they beat Bangladesh by 328 runs in the second and final Test on the fourth day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
Earlier, Pakistan made a draw with Bangladesh in the first Test at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, the port city of the country on May 2.
Sent into bat first, Pakistan piled up a massive 557 for the loss of eight wickets in the first innings and declared their innings on the second day (Thursday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored 203 in the first innings on the third day (Friday).
Later, Pakistan declared their second innings making 195 for the loss of six wickets on the third day and set a target of 550 runs to win for Bangladesh in the second innings.
In reply, Bangladesh were all out for 221 in the second innings on the fourth day.
Bangladesh scored 63 for the loss of one wicket before the bails were drawn for the third day.
Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 32 and 15 runs respectively.
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal was caught behind by wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed off Imran Khan when Bangladesh’s total was 86 for the loss of two wickets.
Mominul Islam knocked a calm 68 from 102 balls. He hit nine fours in his 141-minute innings before he was caught at the cover by Asad Shafiq off Yasir Shah when the hosts total was 143 for the loss of seven wickets. Mominul’s half century made him the fifth player after Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Viv Richards and AB de Villiers to hit half-centuries in 11 consecutive Tests.
Tamim Iqbal made 42 off 67 balls including seven fours.
After dismissal of Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad (2) was caught at the second slip by Younis Khan off Imran Khan when Bangladesh’s score was 95 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Shakib Al Hasan (13) was caught at the mid-off by Wahab Riaz off Mohammad Hafeez when Bangladesh’s total was 121 for the loss of four wickets.
After dismissal of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled by Yasir Shah for naught when the hosts total was 126 for the loss of five wickets.
After departure of Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar was caught behind by Sarfraz Ahmed off Wahab Riaz when Bangladesh’s score was 139 for the loss of six wickets.
Later, Taijul Islam was dismissed by Yasir Shah when Bangladesh’s score was 177 for the loss of eight wickets.
Shuvagata Hom fought back scoring 39 from 55 balls hitting six fours before he was bowled by Junaid Khan when Bangladesh’s second innings came to an end.
Yasir Shah captured four wickets at the cost of 73 runs while Imran Khan bagged a pair of wickets instead of 56 runs.
Besides, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan took one wicket apiece.
Azhar Ali was adjudged the Man of the Match and also adjudged the Player of the Series.
