Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team were eliminated from the ACC Youth (Under-19) Asia Cup Cricket 2017 after a shocking two-run defeat against Pakistan in the rain-interrupted first semifinal at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kual Lumpur on Thursday under the D/L method.
Pakistan will play the final on Sunday against the winners of the second semifinal to be played between Afghanistan and Nepal at the same venue on Friday.
Replying to Young Tigers’ good total of 274 runs, Pakistan needed 76 runs in 66 balls scoring 199 for 5 in 39 overs before the match was stopped by rain.
But, Pakistan were declared winners by two runs under the D/L method as the match could not continue for rain.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, Bangladesh Youth team piled up comfortable 274 runs for 6 in stipulated 50 overs featuring 105 runs in the 2nd wicket stand by opener Pinak Ghosh and one down batsman Saif Hassan.
Pinak Ghosh, who played a vital role to eliminating holders India from the meet beating them by eight wickets in the previous match scoring not out 81 runs, also displayed his brilliance in the day’s match hammering polished 82 runs off 93 balls, featuring eight fours and one six.
Saif Hasan played a captain’s knock of 61 runs off 78 balls, hitting nine fours and one six while number five batsman Afif Hossain contributed unconquered 55-ball 52 runs with five boundaries.
Besides, lower order Nayeem Hasan (22), Naim Sheikh (`4) and Aminul Islam (13) were the other notable scorers for Bangladesh reaching the double figures.
Munir Riaz of Pakistan snatched three wickets for 53 runs while captain Hasan Khan, Suleman Shafqat and Shaheen Afridi took one wicket each conceding 39, 44 and 66 runs respectively.
In reply, Pakistan were enough lucky to win match by just two runs under the D/L method scoring 199 for 5 in 39 overs before the match was stopped due to rain.
Pakistan faced an initial batting collapse losing top three wickets — Mohammad Arif (4), Abdullah Shafique (10) and Muhammad Mohsin Khan (22) — for 51 runs in 10.6 overs and their misery further consolidated after the departure of number five batman Rohail Nazir, who scored 47-ball 26 runs with one four, at 120 for 4 in 25.5 overs.
But two down batsman Mohammad Taha pairing with number six Saad Khan carried the team total to a respectable position from 120 to 197 runs contributing 77 runs in the 5th wicket stand.
Mohammad Taha hammered match highest 92 runs off 97 deliveries with eight hits to the fence and three over the fence before he was victim of nervous 90’s, caught by Nayeem Hasan, off a Qazi Onik delivery.
Saad Khan remained not out on 35 runs off 38 balls with three boundaries while Hasan Khan scored not out 1 run off three balls.
Qazi Onik grabbed two wickets for 35 runs while Afif Hossain and Shakhwat Hossain grabbed one wicket each giving away 42 and 26 runs.

On the other hand, Pakistan reached the semifinal as Group B runners-up after beating Sri Lanka by three wickets, outplaying United Arab Emirates by 226 runs and conceded seven-wicket defeat against Group B Championship Afghanistan.
