Pahela Falgun celebrated

Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring in the Bangla seasonal and 13th February on Christian calendars, has been greeted and observed in Barishal with spontaneous enthusiasm on Wednesday singing ‘let there be flowers bloomed or not, today spring is knocking at the door’ .
Teachers and students of Barisal Govt. Women’s College on Wednesday welcomed ‘king of the seasons’ at their campus with the call ‘Let us take shower of joy under the flow of the spring’.
Barisal Natok and Udichi Shilpi Gosthi ,Barisal Branch in associations with other cultural organisations, arranged the traditional ‘Basanto Baron Ustav’ at Saraswati School ground on Wednesday afternoon. Other cultural organisations also arranged Basnto Baron Utsav at different parts of the city on this occasion.
Songs, dances, recitations, talks and exchange of greetings and gifts and presentations by tradition loving people and songs by leading singers, presented in the programmes. People, mostly youngsters, traditionally celebrate the charming occasion wearing colourful dresses, carrying flowers in their hands welcoming the advent of spring and sharing love.
Shades of saffron, yellow, orange and red were predominant. Young women, dressed in red-bordered yellow saris, flowers in hairs, welcoming the day signals the colour of spring with cuckoos singing songs of the season. Participants of the programmes said begins colour and festivities in the minds of people, lighting up the spring on hearts of all, irrespective of age, life and living. It draws the picture of the colourful season’s transition from dry, dull and drab winter, they added.
RU Correspondent adds: Rajshahi University turned into the festive place of thousands of colourful hearts of the university students on Wednesday on the occasion of Pohela Falgun, the first day of spring in the Bangla month of Falgun with flowers, poems, songs and dances.
The day is one of the enjoyable festivals for the Bengali culture. Huge crowed was seen on the RU campus, children came with their parents while female youths were seen wearing colourful attire and flowers.
Students of RU Fine Arts faculty brought out a colourful rally at around 10:30 am that rally paraded main streets of the university.
Besides, the university’s different departments, social, cultural and voluntary organisations chalked out an elaborate programme marking the colourful day.
Jesmin Aktar Moni, a student of RU Bangla department was seen on the campus wearing yellow dresses and floral headband said, she has been passing an enjoyable moment with friends on the occasion of the day.
