A court here on Tuesday again deferred until June 2 the submission date of the re-investigation report of a casefiled in connection with the sexual harassment of several women during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on the Dhaka University campus last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Muinuddin set the new date as the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) could not submit the re-investigation report of the case on Tuesday. Thus the court deferred the date for a third time in this regard, said assistant commissioner of the police prosecution department Mirash Uddin.
On February 23, Judge of the Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Joyasri
Samaddar directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to re-investigate the case by March 23 after accepting the no-confidence (naraji) petition of special public prosecutor Mahmuda Akter.
Later, another court asked the PBI to submit the report by Tuesday. A group of youths assaulted and sexually harassed some women at Suhrawardy Udyan gate near Dhaka University’s TSC during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on April 14, 2015. A case was then filed with Shahbagh Police Station against an unspecified number of unnamed people on April 17. Later, detectives identified eight of the assaulters, including Kamal, scrutinising video footage. On December 13, 2015, the DB officer submitted the final report to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court for the disposal of the case filed in connection with the sexual harassment as eight people, who were identified through scrutinising video footage, could not be arrested.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque on December 22 last year sent the report to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman for taking the next steps.
Later, Hafizur Rahman sent the report to Judge of Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Joyasri Samaddar in January this year for the final disposal of the case.
