Pahela Baishakh celebrated in festive mood

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali new year was celebrated in different districts on Thursday through various programmes. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Rangpur Correspondent reports : Bangla Nabobarsho 1423 was celebrated with much enthusiasm in Rangpur on Monday.
Different government and non-government organisations chalked out various programmes on the occasion. Different socio-cultural organisations and NGOs took part in the programmes.
The officials of government and non-government organisations brought out a colourful procession in the morning that paraded the main roads of the town.
Traditional Bengali food like ‘panta’ rice was served among the people. Folk dance and song competition was held at local Public Library premises.
Later, a discussion meeting was also held at the same venue.Jala porisoid proshasok Jaunto kumar addressed the discussion meeting as chief guest while Divisional Commisoner of Rangpurkagi Hassan Ahamad ,was present as special guest. Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Rahad Anaur presided over the discussion meeting. Political leaders, Educationist also attended the discussion meeting.And Begum Rokeya University V C D,NurUN Nabi also attended the discussion meeting.
GOURIPUR (Mymensingh) Correspondent adds : Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year 1423, was celebrated amid traditional festivities and enthusiasm in Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh district .
Different socio-cultural organizations drew up elaborate programmes to celebrate the day . People from all walks of life , cultural and professional organisations, institutions and. clubs, such as Gouripur Govt. College, Gouripur Women College, Gouripur Govt. Technical School and College, Gouripur R.K.Govt. High school, Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School, Chader Hat Agradut Niketon , Govt.Textile Vocational Institute, Islamabad Senior Madrasha , Upazila Parishad and Upazila Shilpakala Academy brought out a colourful procession at Gouripur town at 9 a.m. carrying festoons ,placards, posters, banners, and wearing masks to welcome the Bangla New Year,1423 .
rally was attended by Freedom Fighter Alhajj Dr. Capt. (Retd.) Mujibur Rahman Fakir MP, Former State Minister for Health & Family Welfare while UNO of this upazila Margina Akter presided over the programmes. Mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam and Upazila Vice Chairman Rabeya Islam Dali were present.
Jhenidah Correspondent adds: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali new year was celebrated though out the district with new fervor. The turned to a colourful festival when the government employees received 20 per cent bonus following day as the Bengali new year festival. Participation of the government employees enriched the programmes.
Not only that abide ban of use masks and some other musical instruments, the people, especially, the children enjoyed the day with alternative enjoyment. Bullock driven and buffalo driven carts and some other traditional carts move round the district town as well as upazila headquarters where people from all walks of life boarded on them.
The district administration and other cultural and socio-cultural organizations participated in rally and other programmmes.
BSS from Faridpur adds: People in hundreds welcomed the first day of Bengali calendar ‘Pahela Baishakh’ amid festivity and huge fanfare in the early morning today at different corners of this town.
A large number of people of all ages attired with attractive traditional Bangalee dresses gathered first at Swadhinata Chattar located in the court compound to welcome the much awaited Bangla New Year 1423 formally.
A nice and brief program was organized there with LGRD & Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, the minister termed ‘Pahela Boishakh’ as a national day of the Bangla speaking people of all corners of the globe.
Mosharraf said it is the day when all Bangalees irrespective of their religion and caste gather together forgetting all differences and diversified opinions with a commitment of forging more unity and enhancing fraternity.
Giving an extra impetus to the day, Mosharraf called upon all to be united sinking all differences and work together for the prosperity of the country.
Mosharraf also inaugurated a fortnight Boishakhi Mela (fair) arranged at the same venue jointly by the district administration and a local literary-cultural organization ‘ Faridpur Shahitya and Sanskriti Unnayan Sangstha’. Organization president Abul Faez Shahnawaj chaired inauguration ceremony. It was addressed, among others, by Police Super Md. Jamil Hassan, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Kh. Mohtesham Hossain Babor and Kushal Chowdhury.
In another big congregation on Ambica Maidan organized by the district administration, LGRD Minister Khondoker Mosahrraf said there is no room for communalism in this country where people of all religious sects are living in peace and amity.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali new year-1423, was celebrated in the city and its adjacent areas on Thursday like other parts of the country with festive mood and enthusiasm together with a vow to build a non-communal, happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
Children, youths, men, women and activists of the socio-cultural, voluntary and professional organisations wearing traditional dresses came out on the streets after sunrise to welcome the Bengali New Year.
Besides, hundreds of men, women and children, in traditional colourful clothes, thronged Rajshahi College playground, Fudkipara open stage and Collectorate School and other venues especially the bank of the river Padma for celebrating the New Year.
Marking the celebration, Rajshahi district administration arranged a colourful rally from Collegiate School premises. After parading some of the city streets the rally was ended at the
Collectorate School premises where a daylong “Boishakhi, Children Amusement Fair and Cultural Function” was opened.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Akter Jahan, MP, and Commissioner-in-Charge of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain addressed the opening session with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.
Cultural groups and different organisations arranged various programmes like musical functions, colourful marches and street side Baishakhi fairs in the city.
Various educational institutions especially Rajshahi College took Baishakhi processions in the city streets carrying colourful festoons, placards and banners, wearing masks and singing Boishakhi songs, Palli Geeti, Jarigan, Vatiali, Baul, Lalon Geeti, Nazrul Geeti and Rabindra Sangeet and other folk and classical songs.
Baishakhi Melas, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll-dances, Nagor Dola, kite flying competitions and discussions meeting were also arranged throughout the day. Improved diets were served among the inmates of Jail, baby homes, hospitals and orphanages.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1423, was celebrated in the district on Thursday with much enthusiasm and traditional festivities with a vow to build a non-communal, happy and prosperous country.
Marking the day, district administration, Gaibandha Government Women’s College, Sadar Upazila Model School and College, Outsource Experts Limited, Udichi Shilpi Gosti, Dariapur Sangskritik Jote, and other socio-cultural organizations including some NGOs chalked out the elaborate programmes.
The programmes included mongal shobhajatra, eating of pantha vaat with fried hilsha fish and chili, discussion meeting, staging drama, arrangement of Baishakhi mela and kite flying.
Khulna Correspondent adds: Bangla Noborsho-1423 was celebrated here on Thursday in the city with great enthusiasm, fanfare and festivity.
Khulna District Administration, different sociocultural organizations and Political parties observed elaborate programmes marking the Pahela Boishakh in Khulna city. To mark the day, Khulna District Administration began the day with a
colourful procession that started from Shibbari Intersection and ended at Officers Club through Dawkbangla in the city. Cultural programmes and ‘Panta Utsob’ was held at Bakultala premises at the residence (Banglo) of Khulna deputy commissioner in the morning.
A discussion meeting about the heritage and history of Bengali New Year was held at the Jatisangho Shishu Park followed by a cultural programme.
A three-day ‘Boishakhi Mela’ was began on the Pahela Boishakh at the same venue.
Khulna Shishu Academy celebrated Pahela Baishakh with the children on the day.
Khulna Central Jail and ‘Shishu Poribar-3 (Children Orphanage-3)
celebrated Bangalee cultural programme and exhibited different commodities which made by the prisoners of central jail. Khulna Divisional Public Library authority arranged essay competition for children and Khulna Islamic
Foundation arranged discussion meeting.
All Educational Institutions including Khulna University (KU), Khulna
University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated colourful Pahela Boishakh to mark the day.
Khulna City Unit Awami League brought out a colourful procession (Mongol Shovajatra) and held discussion meeting, cultural programme and ‘Panta Utsob’ on Pahela Boishakh. BNP, Jatiya Party, Sammiltya Sankskritik Jote, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), among others also celebrated Pahela Boishakh with various programmes.
