Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New year 1426, was celebrated on Sunday with much enthusiasm. District administrations and different socio-cultural organisations and professional groups and educational institutions chalked out various colorful programs marking the Day. Bagerhat Correspondent says: Pahela Baishak, the first day of Bengali New Year 1425 was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine upazilas with enthusiasm, fanfare and traditional festivities on Sunday.
Like previous year, this year’s celebration was also held with much traditional gaiety as the ‘Mongol Subajatra’ earned UNESCO recognition as world heritage last year.
Earlier , the district and upazila administrations and different socio-cultural and political organisations chalked out different elaborate progmmes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
 In Bagerhat district town the day’s programme started with a Barsha Baran Shovajatra that started from Bagerhat Shaikh Helal Uddin stadium at 8-30 am and ended at Local Zila Parishad community centre premises after parading the main roads of the district town. It was led by Dr. Al-haj Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and the President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of the Social-welfare affairs, Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Comnstituency-2 and President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock affairs, Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy Police Super of Bagerhat. The Shova Jatra was attended by people irrespective of ages and sexes carrying various banners, placards and festoons welcoming the Bangla New Year.  
After the end of the Shoba jatra Dr. Al-haj Mozammel Hossain, MP inaugurated a week-long Baishakhi Mela at local Zila Parishad auditorium premises as Chief Guest in presence of large number of juvenile crowds. A good number of stalls sprung around the fair.
Businessmen of hats and bazars (market places), groceries, sales centers and important places in both rural and Urbana areas opened their traditional Hal Khatas (new account books) ceremonially and distributed sweets and seasonal fruits among the customers (Khariddars) hoping good business in the new Bangala year.
On the occasion Bagerhat Press Club arranged a get together programme in its auditorium with Ahad Uddin Haidar, President of the club in the chair. It was attended by the members of the club and their family-members.  
Barisal Correspondent reports : ‘Choitro Sangkranti’ and ‘Pahela Boishakh’ was observed in Barishal city with various colourful programmes and enthusiasm for bidding farewell to outgoing 1425 on April 13 and welcoming Bangla New Year 1426 on Sunday April 14.
Charukala, Barishal organised traditional ‘Mangol Shovajatra (procession of well being for all)’ from Barishal Ashwini Kumar Hall compound at 8:00 am on April 14 with ‘Rakhi Bandhan (friendship ties) ceremony.
Udichi Barishal unit and Barishal Natok also jointly organized Mangol Shovajatra from Brojo Mohun Bidyaloy (B M School) ground at 8:30 AM and Barishal University students at 10:00 AM at its campus on the same day.
Mangol Shovajatra also organised by district administration at 7:30 AM on Pahela Boishakh from Barisal Circuit House ground to Bangobondhu Udyan .
All Mangol Shovajatra rally ended at their starting points after moving on city roads carrying motifs of Bengali folk and daily life.
Lathi Khela at Circuit House ground, kite flying at Bangobondhu Udyan were organized by district administration.
Different educational institutions at different places and times of the same morning organized programmes to observe Bangla New-year, said Ajiar Rahman, deputy commissioner of Barisal.
Charukala Barishal also arrange a two-day long ”Lokojo Sangskritik Prodorshani ( folk cultural fair) ” and juvenile painting competition at Barishal Ashwini Kumar Hall focusing on regional life, folk and heritage and marketing of different handicraft items, performing folk songs and dramas.
Three-day long ‘Boishakh Utsov’ with ‘Boishakhi Mela’ (Bangla New Year’s fair) and cultural functions arranged by Udichi at B M School ground also held.
Shabdaboli Group Theatre at Barishal central Shahid Minar, Planet World Children Park at park premises and local businessmen at Hatkhola arranged Choitra Sangkranti Utsav, Boishakhi Mela, and cultural programme in the city from April 14-16.

at Sarswatee Girls School premises to bid farewell and welcome Bangla year from April 13 evening to April 14 early hours.
Under the programmes s for bidding farewell and welcoming Bangla new-year local businessmen clearing their enterprises observed ‘Halkhata Utsov’ on April 14.
Udichi Shilpi Gosthi and Barishal Natok at B M School and Parantik Songeet Biddayalaya at Ashwini Kumar Hall premises, arranged cultural program on Pahela Boshakh early morning to welcome new Bangla year.
Gano Shilpi Sangstha performed cultural shows of folk songs and dramas in front of Barishal Ashwani Kumar Hall on Pahela Boishakh morning and afternoon.
Local administration and law enforcing agencies arranged special measures for safety and security of the people, functions and fair grounds of Pahela Boishakh and related programmes.
 Gopalganj Correspondent says : Pohela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year-1426, was observed with a befitting manner at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science & Technology University (BSMRSTU) premises at Ghonapara, Gopalganj on the occasion of “Bangla Nobobarsho’ on Sunday.
The festival jointly organised by the students of Bengali & Fine Arts Department of BSMRSTU.
On the occasion of the day, they brought out a colourful procession (Mongol Shovajatra) and singing ”Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho”. They also arranged Baishakhi Mela on this day. At least 50 stalls were participated by different faculties of BSMRSTU.
A Correspondent from Faridpur adds: Pahela Baishakh was celebrated in Faridpur district with much enthusiasm and traditional festivities as elsewhere of the country.
People from all walks of life wearing traditional and colorful dresses poured into a grand rally organized by Faridpur district administration and paraded the main street Mujib Sarak of the town on the occasion.
Different socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions, associations of professionals have joined the rally in jovial atmosphere.
Faridpur district administration, Police administration, Faridpur Pourashava, Faridpur Ladies Club, Officers Club, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Khelaghor, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Govt. Girls School, Faridpur Zila School, Saroda Sundori Girl’s High School joined the rally, among others.
Faridpur district administration has also organized a cultural function at Govt. Rajendra College Premises. Parliament member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, also the President of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry parliamentary standing committee attended the function as chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Omney Salma Tanzia presided over the function while Superintendent of Police Jakir Hossain Khan, Zila parisad chairman Md. Lokman Hossain and Upazilla chairman Md. Abdur Razzak Molla spoke as special guests on the occasion. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, mp of Faridpur-3 also attended the function as chief guest and greeted all the people for celebration of Bangla New Year.
Gouripur (Mymensingh) Correspondent says : Pahela Baishakh was celebrated amid traditional festivities and enthusiasm in Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh district.
 Different socio-cultural organizations drew up elaborate programmes to celebrate the day. People from all walks of life, cultural and professional organisations, institutions and. clubs, such as Gouripur Govt. College, Gouripur Women College, Gouripur Govt. Technical School and College, Gouripur R.K.Govt. High school, Gouripur Pilot Girls’ High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School, Chader Hat Agradut Niketon , Govt.Textile Vocational Institute, Islamabad Senior Madrasha , Upazila Parishad and Upazila Shilpakala Academy brought out a colourful procession at Gouripur town in the morning carrying festoons ,placards, posters, banners, and wearing masks to welcome the Bangla New Year,1426 . This rally was attended by UNO of this upazila Farhana Karim .
Upazila Shilpakala Academy held a cultural programme at Gouripur Upazila Parishad Aam Tala at 10 am and Gouripur Upazila Parishad organised a feeding of Panta Bath with fried fish for entertainment of the guests . Men, wearing panjabi-pyjama, women attired in saris with red borders, and children in colourful dresses thronged traditional Baishakhi Mela (fair) and Austrami at Gouripur Bazar and other cultural functions in the town and elsewhere in 10 unions throughout the day.  
Kapasia (Gazipur) Correspondent reports : On the occasion of ‘Bangla-1426 Bangabdha’ on April 14, at the initiative of the Upazila administration of Gazipur, procession, discussion meeting and cultural programmes were held in the premises of the council. UNO Moussa Ismat Ara inaugurated the programme.. In the morning, a grand procession was organised on the main road where teachers, students, offices of various departments, local journalists and dignitaries of different educational institutions attended . Later, a discussion meeting was held in the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mousa Ismat Ara chaired the meeting while former Awami League President Alamgir Mohammad Shahidullah, newly elected Upazila Parishad chairman Adv Alhaj Md. Amanat Hossain Khan spoke among others.

Khulna (South) Correspondent adds: Like other parts of the country, Bangla Noborsho-1426 ,the first day of the Bangla calendar was also celebrated in Khulna with enthusiasm and festivity.
Khulna district administration, different socio-cultural organizations and political parties arranged elaborate programs marking the day.
Khulna District Administration began the day with a colorful procession that started from Shibbari Intersection and ended at Officers Club after parading different city streets.
Cultural Program and ‘Panta Utsob’ was held at Bakultala in the morning. A discussion meeting was held at the Jatisangho Shishu Park which was followed by a cultural program.
A three-day ‘Baishakhi Mela’ started on April 14, 2019 on the same venue.
Khulna Divisional Public Library authority arranged essay competition for children and Khulna Islamic Foundation arranged discussion meeting.
All Educational Institutions including Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) celebrated the day with festivity.
Khulna City Unit Awami League brought out a colourful procession (Mongol Shovajatra) led by KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque and were also held discussion meeting, cultural programs and ‘Panta Utsob’ marking the day.
BNP, Sammilta Sangskritik Jote, Udichi, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) and other organizations also celebrated the Pahela Baishakh withdifferent programs.
BSS from Rangpur says : Cheerful celebrations of the first day of Bengali New Year-1426 with welcoming ‘Pahela Baishakh’ through colourful traditional programmes turned Rangpur city into a place of festivity and jubilation on Sunday.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, Sommilito Sangskritik Jote, socio-cultural, literary, trade and other organisations and educational institutions welcomed ‘Pahela Boishakh’ amid tight security measures.
The celebrations began in the morning with traditional ‘Baishakhi’ programmes of Shishu Academy and Shilpokola Academy on Banyan Tree premises and ‘Sommilito Sangskriti Jyote’ on Central Shaheed Minar premises.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and Divisional CommissionerMuhammad Joynul Bari inaugurated the celebrations on Central Shaheed Minar premises and Banyan Tree premises respectively in the city.

Thousands of jubilant people wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing `Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho’ participated in the ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’ to welcome the fortunate day.

The district administration arranged a brief pre-‘Mongol Shobhayatra’ discussion on the Banyan Tree premises with the Deputy Commissioner in the chair.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari greeted the people of Rangpur irrespective of caste, creed and religion while welcoming ‘Pahela Baishakh’ in the discussion as the chief guest.
The Banyan Tree and Central Shaheed Minar premises, other important places and educational institutions turned into places of traditional festivities as thousands of joyous people thronged those places to enjoy colourful ‘Baishakhi’ celebrations.
Artistes of many cultural organisations rendered ‘Baishakhi’ songs, ‘Polli Geeti’, ‘Jarigan’, ‘Bhatiali’, ‘Bhaoyaiya’, ‘Baul’, ‘Lalon Geeti’, ‘Rabindra Sangeet’, ‘Nazrul Geeti’ and folk songs on the Banyan Tree and Central Shaheed Minar premises.
The government served improved traditional Bengali foods to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur central jail, orphanages, shishu paribars, vagabond centres and orphanages under supervision of a monitoring team formed by the district administration.
Many stalls with traditional food items like ‘Pantha Bhat’, ‘Aloo, Korola and shutki Bhorta, were installed in the ‘Baishakhi Melas’, hotels, restaurants, makeshift roadside places, educational institutions and other places of the city and across the district.
The traditional ‘Baishakhi Mela’, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll-dances, ‘Nagor Dola’, ‘Ha-Du-Du’, ‘Lathi Khela’, kite flying and discussions were arranged in the city, upazila headquarters and rural areas to welcome ‘Pahela Boishakh.’ Earlier on Saturday, the ‘Chaitra Sangkranti’ through traditional ‘Halkhata’ for renewal of business accounts clearing dues was celebrated in the hats, bazars, groceries, sales centres and other important business places.
