Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year- 1422 was celebrated here with much enthusiasm and festivity on Tuesday.
The day began with a musical soiree performed by Sangeet Niketan with the rising sun at the altar of the Banyan tree (Batamul) on the premises of district Judge Court.
On the occasion, different socio-cultural organisations brought out rallies in the town. Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Chandra Biswas led the rally.
Besides, Alpana Shahitya Sangskriti Sangsad, Tarun Sangha, Collectorate School, R.K. Estate School and other socio-cultural organizations also brought out rallies and paraded different streets in the town.
Different organizations arranged Panta-ilish to entertain the people.
The district administration also arranged Panta-ilish at station club, Udichi Shilpi Goshthi arranged at Government Boy’s High school playground (Bara Math) and district Bar Association arranged at the Bar Library.
Alpana Sahitya Sangskriti Sangsad organized its week-long Boishakhi Mela at the premises of Public Library.
Chairman of parliamentary standing committee of Water Resources Ministry Ramesh Chandra Sen attended the fair as the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Chandra Biswas, Superintendent of Police Abdur Rahim Shah Chowdhury, Administrator of Zilla Parishad Sadeque Qureshi and Executive Director of Echo Social Development organization (ESDO) Dr Muhammad Shahid Uz Zaman attended as the special guests.

On the occasion, upazila administration chalked out elaborate programmes including welcoming new year by rendering songs. Other programmes include “Panta Elish” cultural function and discussion meeting. A colorful traditional rally also paraded in the roads. Member of parliament (MP) jessore-5 Shapon Bhattacharjee attended the factions. On the other hand, Monirampur Press Club arranged Panta Elish, indoor games, discussion meeting and cultural functions.

In observance of Pahela Baishak district administration, different socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions observed the day with different programmes including discussion meetings, bringing out of colouful rally with traditional rural items and cultural shows.
Marking the day, Borshobaron Udjapan Parishad brought out a colourful procession in the town from Railway Krishanchura Square in the morning.
Minister for Religious Affairs principal Motiur Rahman and Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Mustakim Billah Faruqui led the procession
Eminent cultural personalities and elites joined the rally that paraded the main thoroughfares of the town.
Hundreds of people joined the procession carrying different traditional rural household materials and musical instruments and images of monkey, birds, and traditional dolls.
Different cultural groups including Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, Mymensingh Shilpakala Academy and Sandipon Sangskritik Sangstha organized cultural shows.
A boishakhi mela was held at Shaheeb Quarter Park area in the town. Meanwhile, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal brought out a colourful rally at its campus on Tuesday.
Vice-chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Mohit-ul Alam led the rally.
Earlier, the Fine Arts Department students of JKKNIU brought out a colourful rally and paraded main streets in the district.
The students of Music and Drama and performing Arts Departments of JKKNIU hold cultural programmes and staged dramas marking on the occasion.
