Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year 1422, was celebrated in the port city Chittagong and its adjacent districts amid much enthusiasm.
The programme began after sunrise at the historic DC hill and Shristala of CRB hill where artistes of Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad performed the song -“Esho hey Boishakh”.
Besides, socio-cultural, literary organizations and educational institutions celebrated the day welcoming the Benagli New Year 1422.
In the morning, thousands of jubilant people irrespective of caste and creed and wearing new dresses and masks, carrying festoons, placards, banners, and singing `Esho Hey Boishakh Esho Esho’.
The people started gathering at different venues in the port city and elsewhere in the districts.
Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad began its two-day programme through a colourful procession. The programmes included Kabadi, bullfight, cockfight, puppet show were the attractions of the day.
Chittagong Press Club, Chittagong University, University of Science and Techonology in Chittagong (USTC) and Government Fine Arts College, Borsho Biday O Borsho Sommilon Parishad, BWA School and College, Global Scholar School and College, Shahitya Parishad and Government City College celebrated the day with various programmes.
