Staff Reporter :The workers of ‘Padma’ sweaters staged demonstration in the city’s Mirpur area in demand of their salaries. The incident took place on Saturday morning and at least 10 workers were injured in brick chips pelting. Vehicular movement remained suspended from Mirpur Section-1 to Technical Mor intersection on the Mirpur-Azimpur Road following the demonstration, police said. Quoting the witnesses and workers, Mirpur Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Salauddin said that workers of Padma garment staged demonstration and they pelted brick chips at another factory named Bhartex Fashion as the workers did not join the demonstration. As a result, 10 workers were injured. Police lobbed several tear gas shells to disperse the workers from the street considering the public interest, the police official said. An adequate number of police men were deployed in the area to thwart any untoward situation, he said.
