The work order for construction of Padma bridge will be issued before due date, the communications minister has said.
Obaidul Quader told reporters at Munishiganj on Friday that the work order could be issued in the first week of June.
China Major Bridge Engineering Company was likely to get the contract provided its proposal did not clash with national interests, he said.
“There is still some scrutiny needed,” he added.
Quader said the Mawa approach road work had already progressed considerably. “As we had to move the Mawa ferry terminal urgently, we’ve started building a terminal near Shimulia Bazar. The army has already begun laying the 2.5km road,” he added.
“The Mawa terminal, however, will be permanently shifted to Kantiparha. For that we need at least a year.”
