The government today reported that the under construction Padma Bridge so far witnessed completion of nearly 36 percent of its physical works as parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Assurance reviewed the project’s progress.
“The concerned officials informed a meeting of the standing committee that until September last, 36 percent of the physical works of the Padma Bridge has been completed,” a parliamentary secretariat official said.
According to the Implementation, Scrutiny and Evaluation Division, he said, the engineers by now constructed 29 percent of the main bridge and completed building of 99 percent of the link road at its Mawa end and 77 percent of the link road at the Jajira end.
A parliamentary secretariat statement earlier said a meeting of the committee presided over by its chairman Kazi Keramat Ali, on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the projects under Road Transport and Bridges ministry.
Officials concerned, it said, informed the committee that by now they implemented one of the four assurances given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina involving the ministry while works were underway to implement the rest three including the Padma Bridge.
The committee suggested recruitment of full time only one project director for every mega projects under the ministry to complete them in time.
The statement said this was the 26th meeting of the committee joined by concerned officials.
