Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said three mega projects – Padma Bridge, Dhaka’s Metro Rail and Karnaphuli Tunnel – would open to the public by this year.
He made this remark at the Bangabandhu Festival organised by Hasumonir Pathshala on the premises of the Public Library in the capital on Wednesday. The festival was inaugurated by Chief Whip of Parliament Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury.
The minister said, “These projects are moving fast. We will be able to inaugurate Padma Bridge by June this year.”
“Metro Rail and Karnaphuli Tunnel will be commissioned within this year,” he added.
The Bangabandhu Festival was made eventful and colourful through Joy Bangla art camp, recitation, dance, song, film exhibition and a programme titled ‘Talk about Bangabandhu, listen to the liberation war’.
A painting competition styled ‘Sonar Bangla in Father’s Thoughts’, was participated by artists who were given crests and certificates from Hasumonir Pathshala.
Matia Chowdhury, presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League, AAMS Arefin Siddique, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, Mirza Azam, organisational secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, artist and freedom fighter Shahabuddin Ahmed were present among others on the occasion.
At around 7.00pm, a film exhibition was inaugurated by State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid.
