In Tarash of Sirajganj, the daily wage of agriculture labourers is Tk 300 only, which appears small to meet the daily needs. The workers told reporters that they were unhappy while harvesting Aman paddy in the field of Kanchaneshwar village in Madhainagar union of the upazila. That is normal. If the prices of daily necessities continue to rise in the market, then the condition of the working class people will be more difficult. People of these professions are struggling to meet the demand of product market. As soon as they go to the market, they hear the price of daily necessities. When I went to collect pictures of paddy harvesting on the spot on Sunday afternoon, November 14, I saw 8/10 working people of ethnic groups cutting aman paddy in the land of Dulal Chandra Roy in that field. Seeing the journalists, they started talking about their grief and misery in dissatisfaction. Minati Rani, a worker of an ethnic group, said that it has become very difficult for us to maintain our family with the money we get at the end of the day. At the end of the day, after getting 300 rupees, if you go to buy rice, pulses and curry, the money becomes even more deficient. If you want to live after that, you have to eat. So, even if it is difficult, I am earning wages this day to meet any demand and give food to other members of the family.
Dulal Chandra Roy, the owner of the land, said, “I and my wife are harvesting this paddy.” I receive 300 Taka per day for cutting and transporting paddy. I am a worker myself. The money we get by working the day does not meet our needs. However, those who are cutting paddy under the contract are cutting at Tk 1,500 to Tk 2,000 per bigha. And carrying rice is the responsibility of the owner. In this regard, Azahar Ali, UP member of the ward, said that the cost of labor has come down due to the use of modern machinery. And due to the decrease in the price of labour and the increase in the price of daily necessities in the market, the people of the working class are struggling to make ends meet. I am seeking the intervention of the administration in controlling the market price.
