An indefinite strike, called by Pabna district Bus Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad, began in the district on Thursday morning to press home for their six-point demand.
The association president freedom fighter Habibur Rahman Habib confirmed the matter.
Habibur said Pabna’s transport workers often face extortion and harassment allegedly by members of the transport association in Sirajganj’s Shahzadpur upazila. They also beat the workers on various excuses.
On December 24, two workers of ‘Pabna Express’ were beaten. The association informed the matter to the authorities concerned but no result was found.
The association also held a press conference at the district press club’s office on December 27 over the issue and gave the administration an ultimatum to resolve the matter within three days which ended on Wednesday, said the association president.
The association halted plying of all vehicles from 6am as no solution came out within this period, he added.
No vehicle has seen plying on the roads responding to the strike, causing immense sufferings to passengers.
